Lindsay Clancy supporter brings son’s cremated remains to court on last day of trial: Live updates

Lindsay Clancy supporter Danielle Buckley brought her son Evan’s cremated remain to the courthouse on Thursday.

She told the Daily Mail that she and Evan both struggled with their mental health and he took his own life in 2024.

‘I was on so many medications that I couldn’t even keep track of them all,’ Buckley said.

‘I made my kids start taking showers, ’cause I was I was struggling with the same stuff. I didn’t think that I would actively do it, but it was terrifying.

‘I never thought about taking my children, but I there was a day where I thought I can’t keep living like this. So, like I said, just identifying with her struggle, what just happened recently with my son.’

She wanted to come to support Clancy because she said they also had bad experiences with the mental health industry.

‘The big issue that I think we can really address is the healthcare system,’ she said.

‘So many people fall through the cracks. My son fell through the cracks.’

On the verdict, Buckley said: ‘I just want her to be not guilty. I think that she’s paid the price.’

After five weeks of excruciating testimony and evidence from more than 75 witnesses, Lindsay Clancy’s fate will soon rest in the hands of 12 jurors in the murder trial that first gripped the nation, and then the world.

The 36-year-old former maternity nurse is accused of killing her three children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan, with exercise bands inside their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home on January 24, 2023.

The judge has given the prosecution and the defense about an hour each to make their final case.

Then the jury, made up of 12 women and six men, will begin deliberations on Clancy’s fate.

While 18 jurors were seated for the grueling five-week-long trial, only 12 will make the decision.

The jury members will not know who is deciding and who was an alternate until deliberations begin.

Rep Tony Pope, the prosecutor who put killer mom Susan Smith behind bars, said the verdict could deliver a ‘strange twist,’ particularly from female jurors who are mothers themselves.

Pope, now speaker pro tempore of the South Carolina House, previously prosecuted killer mom Susan Smith in the 1994 murders of her two sons, Michael, three, and 14-month-old Alexander.

Then 22, Smith strapped her young sons into the back seat of her car before letting it roll down a ramp into John D Long Lake in Union, watching for six agonizing minutes as the vehicle filled with water and sank to the bottom.

With all the evidence now presented and the final witness off the stand, the judge held a charging conference Wednesday to determine which lesser homicide charges jurors can consider in their deliberations.

Judge William Sullivan put manslaughter in jurors’ hands, giving them a potential lesser conviction instead of murder, which carries a life sentence.

Three charges are now on the table: first-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter – though it was not specified which form of manslaughter. Her defense had previously sought an involuntary manslaughter charge.

Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney attacked the police investigation, arguing questions still linger before the jury heads to deliberations in ‘America’s saddest murder trial.’

As the lawyers debated which charges Clancy should face on Wednesday, defense attorney Kevin Reddington asked the judge to allow the jury to consider instructions based on an inadequate police investigation.

‘It was no investigation,’ he said. ‘They basically accepted the fact that she strangled the children and moved on.’
