Lizzo Responds To Taylor Swift Rumours And Denies ‘Talking S***’

Lizzo has shut down a fresh round of online chatter accusing her of taking aim at Taylor Swift, and honestly, she didn’t waste much time getting to the point.

The whole thing kicked off on X (formerly Twitter) after a user compared streaming numbers tied to Taylor’s recent releases and Lizzo’s 2025 mixtape My Face Hurts From Smiling.

Lizzo reshared the post on May 22, alongside a clip from her “STFU” music video, asking plainly: “Can someone explain what this means?”

It didn’t take long for someone to jump in with a theory, claiming the numbers were a result of “all that s*** talking you did about Tay finally [catching] up to you”.

Lizzo, understandably, was not having that.

“Are you well?” she replied.

“First of all I have never talked s*** about Taylor Swift — also while we on the subject I’ve never talked s*** about any artist. Just because I mention an artist by name does not mean I’m talking s*** — grow TF up pls.”

And while the internet loves to run with a narrative, there’s not much in Lizzo’s track record to back up the idea that she’s been shading Swift. If anything, she’s done the opposite.

Earlier this month, while promoting her new track “Bitch” on Genius Verified, Lizzo gave a nod not only to Meredith Brooks — whose 1997 song she interpolates — but also to Swift’s approach to reclaiming her work.

“Shout-out to Meredith Brooks. I want the whole world to know that this is her record,” she said. “I feel like that would’ve gotten lost in translation a little bit. I was like, ‘This is Lizzo’s version’.”

She then added, “You know how it’s like, ‘Taylor’s Version?’ It’s like, ‘Bitch (Lizzo’s Version)’.”

The admiration isn’t new either. Back in 2022, Lizzo drew a comparison between herself and Swift during an appearance on The Breakfast Club, joking: “I’m Black Taylor Swift. I really am, I’m trifling.”

She went on to explain how both artists pull from their personal lives in their songwriting, adding, “I don’t talk too badly about [an ex’s] character, it’s just what he do. I’ll be like, ‘He’s a good person, but this is what he did. Am I tripping?’ They’d be like, ‘You’re not tripping, you’re not tripping’.”

However, Taylor fans in the comments have claimed that Lizzo tweeted in support of Kanye West‘s “Famous” music video back in 2016, which famously Taylor was not a fan of.

Although, I’m not sure Lizzo has stayed loyal to the Kanye fandom since the rapper unwillingly dragged her into a debate about her weight loss being supposedly “demonic” to mainstream media.

So, while stan culture might enjoy a good feud narrative, this one seems to be proven debunked. Lizzo’s made it clear: there’s no bad blood here and all the rumours are not true, (yeah)!
