Man extradited from Poland over alleged murder after body found stuffed inside metal cabinet

A man has been extradited from Poland and charged with murder more than three years after a body was found inside a metal cabinet on the NSW Mid North Coast.

The 26-year-old arrived at Sydney International Airport in Mascot at about 6pm on Friday, escorted by homicide detectives.

He was taken to Mascot Police Station, where he was charged with the murder of Darcy Schafer-Turner.

Two men have previously been sentenced over the death of Mr Schafer-Turner, who was 22 when he disappeared following a drug-related dispute.

NSW Police said an investigation was launched in March 2023 to look into the alleged supply of drugs in Caringbah, in Sydney’s south.

Officers found links to a missing person case and brought in detectives, who established Strike Force Etruscan to investigate the disappearance of a 22-year-old man from Peakhurst.

On May 12, 2023, police searched Warrell Creek at Macksville on the Mid North Coast where they found the man’s body hidden inside a large metal cabinet.

Zachary Richard Fraser, 22, and Charles Dennis Le Marchant Turnbull, 33, were charged over the alleged murder and have since been dealt with by the courts.

After further investigations, detectives identified a third suspect, 26, who was allegedly involved in the killing and had been living in Poland.

On September 18, 2026, detectives travelled to Poland to arrest the 26-year-old.

With help from Polish authorities and national law enforcement partners, detectives arrested the man in Poland and arranged his extradition to Australia.

After he was charged in Sydney, the man was refused bail. He was due to appear in court on Saturday.
