Meet The Couple Letting Australia Plan Their Wedding

Meet The Couple Letting Us Plan Their Wedding: ‘They Have Done The Unthinkable’

After more than 700 entrants from across Australia, we’ve finally picked one lucky couple to have a wedding planned and paid for, all thanks to Maltesers Duos (and PEDESTRIAN.TV, of course).

So, allow us to introduce the happy couple: Bianca and James

Who are Bianca and James?

Living by the beach in NSW, Bianca and James have been together for seven years, engaged for almost four, and are parents to twin boys.

The two met through a mutual friend, Luke, James’s housemate at the time. Bianca came over for a visit and, in her words, they “quickly became inseparable”. Before long, she moved in, and “poor Luke moved out”.

When it comes to a wedding, the pair have tried to plan one, but with the stress of kids and different ideas of what they’re after, they’ve got further and further away from that perfect day. They’ve even considered eloping simply to take away the pressure of planning.

Now with a wedding being organised for them, Bianca and James can sit back and relax. Safe in the knowledge that they won’t have to choose between each other’s preferences, but instead, they can have both.

So, we sat down with the soon-to-be husband and wife to learn a little more about them and what sort of wedding they’re after. Get your first look at the couple who’ll be taking their steps down the aisle and leaving all the planning up to us!

What is your favourite thing about each other?

Bianca: My favourite thing about James is his ability to see the good in everything and everyone.

James: My favourite thing about Bianca is how thoughtful she is and her kindness. She is the most kind-hearted person, and I love that.

How do you two differ from each other?

We are very opposite in some ways and balance each other out. James is an extrovert, the life of the party, very confident. I am an introvert and am always looking for an excuse to stay home. While James loves being out and about with mates, I’d rather be home reading a book or watching TV.

Take us back to the day of the proposal. How did it go?

James and I had already spoken about “Better Together” by Jack Johnson being our wedding song. We have twin boys and find the song relates very well to us and our relationship. James took me away to Sydney for the weekend and surprised me with tickets to see Jack Johnson perform at the Opera House. Little did I know he had big plans to drop down on one knee during our song. Midway through the concert, there was a massive thunderstorm that came out of nowhere, and the concert got cancelled before our song had been played. We ran back to the hotel in the pouring rain. Soaking wet and determined not to let it ruin our night, we played our song in the hotel room and started getting ready to go out again. That’s when James got down on one knee and popped the question.

What does marriage mean to you?

Marriage means finally being united as a family, feeling settled and able to plan for future parts of our lives. We have felt like we have been held back from many things, as it was always something hanging over our heads. It means celebrating our love and all that we have achieved together. Importantly, it means our family and friends can finally stop hassling us to have a wedding!

Describe your dream wedding

Bianca: Funnily enough, my dream wedding would definitely be one I didn’t have to plan! Something beautiful to look at, with lots of smiles and laughter from those we love.

James: A wedding that doesn’t involve stress and planning! This is absolutely perfect and honestly the dream wedding!

What has been the biggest challenge of wedding planning?

The biggest challenge we have faced when wedding planning is deciding between having a big wedding or eloping. With very busy young kids, the thought of planning a bigger wedding seemed unachievable to us. We were sitting in limbo between wanting that beautiful wedding or just eloping to save us from the stress.

What are your wedding non-negotiables?

Bianca: A relaxed, carefree wedding that feels like us, and having our twin boys there to celebrate.

James: Great food, great company, and an open bar.

What are you struggling to compromise on or choose between?

The big wedding vs the elopement has been the hardest decision for us and the reason we are still engaged after three and a half years.

Do you think it’s possible to have a wedding where you don’t have to choose between the things you want?

For the last three and a half years, that hasn’t seemed possible for us. But winning this has made us feel like the luckiest couple alive, and after talking through the vision with the team, we’d say it is definitely possible!

What are you hoping this experience will be like?

After talking with the team, they have done the unthinkable for us. They have made the idea of planning a wedding actually seem FUN! And that’s exactly what we’re hoping for from this experience.

What does winning this wedding mean to you?

Winning this wedding means everything to us. It means we can have that beautiful moment of celebrating our love in front of our nearest and dearest. It means officially becoming a family unit on paper, showing our kids that love deserves to be celebrated. It means no more stress, what-ifs, or disagreements. We are so incredibly grateful for this opportunity.

Looking ahead, what are you most excited about?
