More than 10 dead and dozens injured after horrifying stampede ahead of IPL champions’ victory parade

More than 10 people have died in horrifying scenes following a stampede in India prior to the IPL victory celebrations.

RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) won the T20 competition and fans gathered outside the stadium in their thousands ahead of the victory parade.

In scenes of sheer panic, fans tried to scale the walls and gates at Chinnaswamy Stadium, with more than 10 fans dead including a woman and boy, according to The Indian Express

In excess of 50 fans were injured and there are fears that the death toll could rise when the full picture becomes clear.

It is currently unknown what triggered the stampede but police outside the stadium had to perform a ‘lathi charge’, running at the crowd with batons in order to disperse them.

Some attempted to give victims CPR outside the stadium and ambulances struggled to take those affected to hospital given the vast crowds and traffic.
