New York Mets fire manager Carlos Mendoza after disastrous season has left them at risk of making playoffs – despite $500m roster

The New York Mets have fired manager Carlos Mendoza.

The Mets are 34-47 this season and already at serious risk of missing the playoffs, despite spending $500 million this season in payroll and luxury taxes, which is only second to the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Andy Green has been named interim manager after previously working with the club as the Senior Vice President for Player Development.

Green played briefly with the Mets in 2009 and later managed the San Diego Padres from 2016 to 2019, accumulating a 274-366 record without ever finishing above fourth place in the National League West.
