Patriots’ $68m star ruthlessly mocked by NFL fans for brutal drop in ‘disasterclass’ debut
New England Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs suffered catastrophe on his debut during Wednesday night’s season opener.
The wide out, 26, suited up for Mike Vrabel’s team for the first time in the regular season since signing with the Patriots as a free agent in March.
However, his long-awaited debut was marred by disaster with Doubs suffering disaster in New England’s 13-10 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks.
With AJ Brown sidelined early on into the Super Bowl rematch, Doubs had been expected to take the mantle as the top option in Drake Maye’s receiving corps.
But the receiver was largely anonymous throughout the first three quarters of the clash, failing to record a catch.
Things took a turn for the worse in the fourth quarter when, with the score tied at 10-10, Doubs dropped a pass from Maye.

He appeared poised to finally get on the board on a second-and-14 play when the Patriots quarterback rolled to his right and fired a pass downfield to the pass catcher.
However, despite being under no pressure from a defender, Doubs couldn’t haul in the throw letting it spill to the turf.
The catch should have secured a first down for New England. Instead, Maye threw his second interception of the night on the next play.
The Seahawks went on to take the lead – their first of the game – on the next play after a 26-yard Jason Myers field goal capped an eight-play, 39-yard drive.
Doubs fell victim to brutal taunting from NFL fans online with many branding his performance a ‘disasterclass.’
’84 million dollar drop right here,’ wrote one fan on X.
‘Worst drop I’ve seen in a looooong time,’ said another.
‘Certainly hasn’t been an ideal first impression to make with a new team,’ a third posted.

A fourth joked that Doubs ‘couldn’t even catch a f***ing break lmaooo.’
‘At this point I turned my tv off. [I’d] seen f***ing enough yo,’ added a fifth.
Doubs joined the Patriots this offseason after four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
‘I just wasn’t locked in enough,’ Doubs said after the game, per Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald. ‘That’s all. Video speaks for itself. And like I said, I’ll be better.’
He was brought in to replace Stefon Diggs who was released by the Patriots after just one season in New England.
The fifth-year wideout signed a a four-year deal worth $68million, according to ESPN.
