Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts out for the season after blood clots discovered on his lungs

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is likely out for the rest of the 2026 NFL season after beginning treatment for blood clots on his lungs.

Hurts was placed on IR last Saturday, two days after the Eagles revealed a blood clot was found on his calf, but after the Eagles and Hurts’ agent Nicole Lynn confirmed Hurts has deep vein thrombosis and a bilateral pulmonary emboli, the blood clot has travelled from the legs to the lungs.

The Super Bowl LIX MVP is now on blood thinners and is unable to practice or play until his recovery is complete.

A statement from the franchise and Lynn read: “Over the past few days, Jalen Hurts has received comprehensive medical evaluations by physician experts. In the interest of transparency, we are providing additional information on the diagnosis and treatment plan related to his condition.

“Jalen was initially diagnosed by specialists in London with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis. After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli. He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment should only involve anticoagulation [I.E. “blood thinners”]. During this time, he will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities, including football.

“Jalen’s progress is very good, and we expect a full recovery. We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.

“We are thinking of Jalen and looking forward to a strong recovery.”

Hurts was in hospital until 4am and did not sleep before Philadelphia’s defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

Replaced by back-up Tanner McKee, the Eagles fell to 2-4 in Hurts’ absence, with a 25-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers, leaving them second and 1.5 games behind NFC East leaders New York Giants.
