President Trump shares claims about ‘unusual patterns’ in midterm elections and questions James Talarico’s victory in Texas… despite saying he would accept the results

President Donald Trump has sparked fresh controversy by sharing a series of posts questioning the results of the midterm elections, including Democrat James Talarico’s stunning victory in Texas – just days after promising to accept the outcome.

The president spent part of Saturday amplifying claims about ‘unusual’ voting patterns, dramatic increases in Democratic support and election-night figures that some conservative commentators suggested were difficult to believe.

Trump shared several charts and messages on Truth Social that appeared to cast doubt on the scale of the Democrats’ sweeping victories, which saw Republicans lose control of both chambers of Congress.

But none of the material he circulated provided evidence of election fraud or wrongdoing.

The posts mark a striking change in tone from Tuesday night, when Trump told The New York Times he was ‘absolutely willing’ to accept the election results and work with the incoming Democratic majorities.

One of the most provocative messages concerned Talarico’s crushing victory over Trump-backed Republican Ken Paxton in the Texas Senate race.

The president reposted a message from an account called The Lone Raccoon, which featured a graph showing the candidates’ vote totals rising throughout election night, including several sharp jumps.

The graph highlighted sudden increases in the Democratic candidate’s tally, although such jumps can occur when election officials release large batches of counted ballots.

Talarico’s victory was one of the biggest shocks of Tuesday’s elections, making him the first Democrat elected to the Senate from Texas since 1988.

The 37-year-old former teacher defeated Paxton by approximately 12 percentage points in a state that Trump carried comfortably just two years earlier.

Paxton has already conceded the race and congratulated his Democratic opponent.

Trump also circulated another message highlighting what its author claimed was an extraordinary surge in Democratic votes nationwide.

The post, originally published by Kevin Bass, declared: ‘Republican votes stayed the same. Democrats materialized 20 million new votes.’

An accompanying bar chart compared the popular vote in House elections in 2022 and 2026.

It showed Republicans receiving 54.2 million votes in 2022 compared with a projected 55.6 million this year.

But the Democratic figures appeared dramatically different, rising from 51.3 million in 2022 to a projected 70.4 million in 2026.

Another post shared by Trump claimed Democrats had gained 20 million votes compared with the 2022 midterms, although the figures were projections rather than final totals

Crucially, the 2026 numbers were projections based on an assumption that just 85 percent of votes had been counted, rather than final election totals.

An independent examination of the figures found that the suggestion of 20 million additional Democratic votes was misleading, with the eventual increase likely to be considerably smaller.

Trump shared a third post raising questions about the extraordinary Democratic turnout in Texas, where Republican Governor Greg Abbott was defeated by Gina Hinojosa.

The message, written by Donald Ward, noted that Abbott had actually increased his vote total compared with his successful 2022 reelection campaign.

But Hinojosa received approximately 1.7 million more votes than Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke managed four years earlier.

‘Those are Looney Tunes numbers,’ Ward declared.

He also claimed Hinojosa received 400,000 more votes in Texas than Kamala Harris did during the 2024 presidential election.

‘These are not normal midterms numbers,’ he wrote. ‘Not a single opinion poll before the elections came close to predicting this.’

Ward suggested that polling places should have experienced enormous lines to account for such high turnout.

However, comparisons between different election years do not themselves establish irregularities, and the post offered no evidence that ballots were improperly counted.

Another message circulated by Trump highlighted unusually consistent Democratic gains across multiple states and demanded closer scrutiny of ballot totals, voter records and turnout.

‘A pattern this even demands answers at the ballot level,’ the post declared, calling for hand counts and checks of voter registration records.

The flurry of online activity came less than four days after Trump appeared ready to acknowledge the Republicans’ devastating election defeat.

‘I am absolutely willing to accept those results,’ he told The New York Times during a telephone interview on Tuesday night.

‘We’ll work with the Democrats, and we’ll, you know, look forward to working with them. We’ll probably work something out.’

At the time, Trump blamed Republican losses partly on his own absence from the ballot, suggesting his personal popularity could have helped struggling candidates.

He also insisted he had no regrets about supporting defeated Republicans, including Paxton and South Carolina Senator Darline Graham.

The president’s latest online activity now raises questions about whether he will maintain that conciliatory position as Democrats prepare to assume control of Congress.

Their victories will give them new powers to launch investigations into his administration and potentially block key parts of his legislative agenda.
