Vinyl has staged one of pop culture’s most delightful comebacks. LPs are now a billion-dollar business, with U.S. vinyl revenue topping $1.2 billion and sales growing for 17 straight years. Nearly 50 million records were sold last year alone, a staggering jump from the 13 million sold a decade ago. What was once considered analog nostalgia has become one of the most exciting corners of the industry as fans collect color-press variants and deluxe physical editions.

This past year has delivered a particularly stacked lineup of albums begging to be unwrapped. Taylor Swift’s “Life of a Showgirl” boasts eight unique vinyl editions, while Rosalía’s “Lux” landed an ethereal crystal-clear vinyl last week. Other recent releases include a vinyl version of Tyler, the Creator’s Grammy-nominated double LP “Chromakopia.”

Indie rock fans aren’t left out either: Geese’s “Getting Killed” became one of the year’s buzziest left-field favorites, available in ultra-clear and transparent colorways. And in one of hip-hop’s most anticipated reunions, Clipse returned with “Let God Sort ’Em Out”, a razor-sharp LP that feels tailor-made for the vinyl format.

Some of the most exciting physical releases this year were remasters and anniversary re-releases. The remastered version of Oasis’s “Definitely Maybe” is a No. 1 bestseller on Amazon right now following the band’s reunion tour this year, while Pink Floyd’s 50th anniversary “Wish You Here” deluxe set is a can’t-go-wrong gift for the psych-rock fan.
