Seattle Center shooting latest: Police hunt for second suspect after three killed at popular food festival
A suspect has been taken into custody and police are searching for another after three people were killed and five wounded – including a two-year-old boy – during a mass shooting at a popular Seattle food festival Sunday evening.
Two died at the scene and a third victim, who was taken to Harborview Medical Center, later succumbed to their injuries.
One of the suspects surrendered at the scene while a manhunt is underway to find the second, according to Seattle’s Assistant Police Chief Tyrone Davis.
“There were two people who we believe were shooting at each other,” he said.
The Seattle Fire Department earlier said the child and three other injured people were rushed to hospital in stable conditions, with a fifth person treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to The Seattle Times.
No details have yet been released about those involved in the attack on the Seattle Center, home to the city’s iconic Space Needle, which was hosting the annual Bite of Seattle event over the weekend.
Estan Wakonabo, 25, told The Seattle Times he was at the event with his girlfriend when he heard gunshots at around 6 p.m. local time, describing what followed as “just pure chaos.”
