‘Sweet little boy,’ 4, mauled to death by American Bully dog just after starting preschool

A four-year-old boy was mauled to death by an American Bully dog after recently starting preschool in Virginia.
Garcia Welch, 4, was killed after being attacked by an American Bully dog and suffering serious injuries on October 18 in Louisa County, about 90 miles southwest of Washington, DC.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a 911 call about a dog attack at about 4.42pm.
‘Upon arrival, deputies encountered a 4-year-old male child suffering from serious injuries while the dog continued to attack. Deputies were forced to put the dog down to stop the ongoing attack,’ the sheriff’s office wrote in a press release.
Authorities confirmed the dog breed was a mix of American Pit Bull Terrier and bulldog.
Welch was immediately airlifted to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
‘Garcia was a bright, sweet little boy with a beautiful smile and his entire life ahead of him,’ Welch’s family wrote in a fundraiser statement.
The young boy’s family shared Welch had recently started his ‘journey of learning, growing and making memories,’ at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.

Indigo Pangea, a family member of Welch, has organized a fundraiser for the young boy’s funeral and memorial expenses.
‘No parent should ever have to experience the heartbreak of losing a child, especially in such a sudden and devastating way. Garcia’s mother and family are now facing a pain that no words can adequately describe,’ Pangea wrote on the fundraising page.
‘His older brother has also lost someone who should have been by his side throughout their lives,’ she wrote.
They have raised more than $25,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.
‘The generosity and support from this community and the community-at-large is appreciated more than words can say. Your kindness during this terrible tragedy will help ease some of the burden bearing down on this loving family,’ Pangea wrote.
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School Principal Jesse Cleaver told the Daily Mail in a statement: ‘It is with tremendous sadness that we share that one of our preschool students, Garcia Welch, passed away over the weekend.’
‘Though Garcia was just beginning his time at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, he quickly made a meaningful impression on those around him with his kind, friendly, and respectful personality. His presence will be deeply missed by his classmates, teachers, and our entire TJES community,’ Cleaver said.
Cleaver urged students and family to contact the TJES directly if they need any assistance while navigating the ‘difficult moments’ following the tragedy.
