Teenager attacks three people with a KNIFE inside a Woolworths at busy shopping centre – as police swarm the scene

Three people have been attacked with a knife at a busy shopping centre in Queensland – with one rushed to hospital.

The incident occurred just after 1pm on Friday inside the Woolworths at Toowoomba’s Grand Central Shopping Centre, about two hours west of Brisbane.

Sections of the mall were evacuated after police closed in on an 18-year-old man who had allegedly slashed one shopper on the hand, while two others suffered minor injuries.

Police arrested the teenager about 1.25pm, while the man whose hand was cut was taken to Toowoomba Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The other two victims were treated at the scene.

‘No other serious injuries were reported. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing,’ Queensland Police said.

Later on Friday evening, police charged a Miles man with one count each of intent to cause grievous bodily harm, going armed so as to cause fear, and stealing.

He was denied police bail and is expected to appear at Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Saturday, May 9.
