The Block Contestants Are Apparently Shit-Scared Of Falling Victim To An Unspoken Curse

Winning The Block might sound like the ultimate dream: the fame, the cash, the champagne spray at auction day, but apparently there’s one prize no one actually wants: the car.

Yep, according to long-running fan theories (and a few sneaky production whispers), whoever scores the bonus wheels is basically doomed.
“It’s been the kiss of death for years,” one insider told PEDESTRIAN.TV. “If you win the car, you can almost guarantee you won’t win The Block on auction day.”
And this year, the curse is apparently double-parked. With two MGs up for grabs an MGU9 and an MG HS. Contestants are apparently sweating bullets about the reward challenge.
“Everyone jokes about The Block’s car curse, but behind the scenes no one wanted to be the one holding those keys,” a production source spilled.

This year to make sure the car prize is a little more appealing, the house that wins also will be allowed to take $50,000 off their reserve prize “which is a huge advantage when it comes to auction”, our source said.
It’s not confirmed if that new incentive with the car has anything to do with the wild theory adopted by contestants.
However, the superstition runs deep. Over the years, fans have clocked a weird pattern: the teams who drive off in a shiny new car rarely drive away with the top profit. Meanwhile, the couples who miss out on the cars? They’re the ones cashing the biggest cheques.
“It’s one of those freaky coincidences that just keeps happening,” another insider says. “And with two cars on offer this time, people are already calling it double the curse”. One car is for the contestants and the other is to be sold with the house.
Although the powers that be at the reno show aren’t pleased about the curse theory, the source says: “It adds to the fun. The show thrives on a bit of myth and magic.”
Still, a few contestants have already confessed off-camera that if they do win a car, they’ll flog it the second they can because in true The Block style, even the resale value has been… let’s just say, not quite the dream they’d hoped for.
So will this year’s “lucky” car winners finally break the curse? Or are they about to learn the hard way that superstition hits harder than Scott Cam’s power tools? Stay tuned, because this one’s got more mileage than anyone bargained for.
