The National Center for Human Rights receives the Special Representative of the European Union

The National Council for Human Rights, headed by Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, received Kaysa Ollongren, the European Union Special Representative for Human Rights, and her accompanying delegation, in the presence of Dr. Hani Ibrahim, Secretary-General of the Council, and a number of Council members. 

During the meeting, the President of the Council welcomed the visit of the European official, stressing the importance of the extended partnership between the Council and the European Union in supporting human rights, building capabilities, and enhancing cooperation with community organizations.

 

Karim reviewed the Council’s efforts in following up on elections, developing mechanisms for receiving complaints, expanding awareness and training programs, in addition to its role in supporting dialogue with youth, universities and research centers, and supporting human rights defenders.

 

For her part, Ollongren praised the role played by the Council in promoting rights and freedoms, stressing her aspiration to expand cooperation during the coming period, especially in Areas of follow-up, training and technical support.

 

The meeting witnessed the presence of representatives of civil society organizations, activists and human rights defenders, students from Egyptian universities, and experts.

 

This meeting comes within the framework of the Council’s keenness to strengthen international partnerships and exchange experiences with regional and international institutions concerned with human rights.
