The Speaker of the House of Representatives receives Ambassador Mahmoud Karem President "National Center for Human Rights"

Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali, Speaker of the House of Representatives, received at the Council’s headquarters Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Karem, President of the National Council for Human Rights, in the presence of Counselor Ahmed Manna, Secretary General of the House of Representatives, and Mr. Mohamed Anwar Sadat, member of the National Council for Human Rights.

 

During the meeting, Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali stressed that the meeting comes within the framework of continuous consultation and coordination between the House of Representatives and the National Council for Human Rights regarding ways to develop the legislative framework that regulates and governs the work of The National Council for Human Rights, in light of its role in protecting and promoting human rights in Egypt as an independent national body that complies with the Paris Principles and relevant international standards, noting that the amendments to the National Council for Human Rights law represent an important step to modernize the existing legal framework in line with the legislative and constitutional developments that the Egyptian state has witnessed during recent years.

 

From For his part, Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, President of the National Council for Human Rights, appreciated the cooperation and constructive dialogue with the House of Representatives, which constitutes an extension of the Council’s approach based on institutional consultation with the concerned parties, stressing that the Council is keen to translate the proposed amendments into practical texts that enhance the independence of the Council and enable it to perform its constitutional mandate more efficiently. Mr. Mohamed Anwar Sadat, a member of the National Council for Human Rights, also stressed during the meeting that reviewing the law The National Council and expanding its powers enhance the Council’s effectiveness and performance of its national role and ensure the independence of its decisions and expand its powers to keep pace with new challenges in the field of human rights, especially at the level of establishing more effective institutional work mechanisms in monitoring, following up and interacting with complaints and enhancing the presence of the National Council in supporting the culture of human rights within society.
