The View REJECTED two of Mamdani’s favorite socialists after being warned by Trump’s TV bulldog to give equal time
ABC’s popular daytime talk show is curbing its ‘view’ when it comes to hosting a roster of liberal politicians.
For several months, ‘The View’ has avoided hosting politicians running in competitive midterm races, according to Semafor.
A representative for New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani asked the show for an appearance earlier this year by the mayor and two democratic socialist candidates Mamdani supported in New York’s US House primaries.
The show’s staff said they might be interested in hosting Mamdani, but not Darializa Avila Chevalier or Claire Valdez, the House candidates, a source told Semafor.
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr announced in February that his agency was investigating ABC’s ‘The View’ for violating broadcasting’s ‘equal time’ rule.
One of the reasons the show provided for turning down Valdez and Avila Chevalier was that the FCC’s inquiry led them to be more cautious with bookings of political candidates.
The equal time rule is a 1930s provision that requires broadcast stations who feature political candidates to allow comparable time for opposing candidates.
‘Bona fide news’ coverage is exempted from the rule, according to the text of the bill.

Talk shows have been seen as qualifying for the exemption, but Carr’s FCC has suggested that shows like ‘The View’ should not be treated as news.
The FCC released a public notice in January which suggested that talk shows like ‘The View’ would no longer be exempted.
‘The FCC has not been presented with any evidence that the interview portion of any late night or daytime television talk show program on air presently would qualify for the bona fide news exemption,’ the statement said.
ABC, for its part, has defended its show’s exemption, even running commercials asking their viewers to ask the FCC to drop the investigation.
Elected officials appear to be a different matter, as Vice President JD Vance and Senators Chris Murphy and Cory Booker have been on the show in the last several months.
But Vance and Murphy are not currently up for election, and Booker was unopposed in his primary.
Carr’s FCC has made headlines more than once before.
In February, CBS comedian Stephen Colbert said that he had an interview with Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico spiked by his own network.

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel has also been publicly criticized by the FCC’s Carr
CBS said in a statement that Colbert’s show ‘was provided legal guidance that the broadcast could trigger the FCC equal-time rule for two other candidates’ in the March 3 Democratic primary.
The interview with Talarico was later posted on YouTube, which like other digital platforms is not subject to the equal time rule.
Carr was involved in a controversy last fall after ABC comedian Jimmy Kimmel faced conservative backlash for jokes about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
‘Look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way,’ Carr told right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson while criticizing Kimmel’s jokes.
‘These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.
Later the same day, Kimmel’s show was suspended by ABC. The suspension lasted roughly one week.
The FCC did not respond to the Daily Mail’s request for comment.
