A $9.99 wine from Aldi has been named among the best in Australia – as stores launch a ‘secret cellar’

Aldi has done it again, with a $9.99 bottle of wine just named among the best Rieslings in Australia at the 2026 Sydney Royal Wine Show.
Aldi’s Freya and Jules Riesling was recognised on one of the industry’s most esteemed stages, winning Gold and scoring an impressive 95/100 in the White Wine Riesling category.
It has also won Elite Gold at the 2025 Canberra International Riesling Challenge, Gold at the 2025 Royal Queensland Wine Show and Gold at the 2025 Melbourne International Wine Competition.
Sourced from South Australia’s renowned Clare Valley, the exceptionally good-value drop opens with aromas of white florals and orange blossom, complemented by fresh lime and a hint of orange rind.
It’s described as a ‘well balanced wine that finishes crisp and refreshing’, showcasing the quality and value that made it a standout in the category.
‘This award is a fantastic endorsement of the quality our wine team continues to deliver at Aldi prices,’ an Aldi spokesperson told Daily Mail.
‘To receive Gold at the Sydney Royal Wine Show is an exceptional achievement, particularly for a wine that is available every day for just $9.99.
‘This award is proof that customers don’t need to spend more to enjoy exceptional wine.’

And it’s not the only exciting wine news for Aldi shoppers, with Aussies now given access to the new ‘Secret Cellar’ program.
Combining ‘premium quality, remarkable value and a little mystery’, the Secret Cellar drop will see one ultra-premium wine sold at a significantly reduced price in stores every couple of months.
Shoppers won’t know which bottle it is until it hits stores, with customers simply needing to look out for upcoming release dates in the catalogue.
The first release has just landed, featuring Pirramimma Trademark Limited Edition Shiraz from McLaren Vale.
Despite being worth $70, it’s available at Aldi for just $14.99 – a 79 per cent saving.
‘Secret Cellar is built around something we know our customers love, discovering exceptional quality at an unbeatable price. By leveraging our strong relationships across the wine industry, we’re able to secure premium wines and deliver value that’s genuinely exciting,’ a spokesperson said.
‘Wine can sometimes feel intimidating or out of reach, particularly at the premium end of the market. Secret Cellar removes that barrier by giving shoppers access to outstanding wines at a price that encourages them to take a chance on something new.’
The next drops are scheduled for October and December; they are limited and available while stocks last.
