Three men found guilty of murdering Australian brothers at Mexican surf hotspot

Three men in Mexico have been found guilty of murdering two Australian brothers and their American friend at a popular surf spot.
Australian brothers Jake Robinson, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, were on a surfing trip to Mexico’s Pacific coast when they were shot dead in Baja California state.
They had been camping in a remote beachside area when they were attacked in April 2024.
Their bodies were found dumped in a clifftop shaft several days after they went missing, bearing gunshot wounds to their heads.
On Friday, a judge in a Mexican court found Jesús Gerardo, known as ‘El Kekas’, Irineo Francisco and Ángel Jesús, whose full names have been withheld for legal reasons, guilty of aggravated homicide and several related offences.
Judge Raúl Hernández Arellano handed down the decision at Ensenada court following a five-week trial.
Jake and Callum’s parents, Debra and Martin Robinson, sat hand in hand as the guilty verdicts were announced.
The couple had attended every day of the trial and sat through six hours of closing arguments on October 8, just metres from the three defendants.

Prosecutors argued the three tourists were victims of a robbery that went wrong. The court heard the victims had begged for mercy before they were murdered, and that their attackers later mocked their pleas.
Jake, 30, was a doctor who was due to take up a position at a hospital in Geelong after returning to Australia.
His older brother Callum, 33, was a professional lacrosse player based in San Diego, in the US.
Following the verdict, Debra and Martin were due to travel to the US before making the journey back to their home in Perth in the coming days.
More to come.
