Trump unveils massive new pet project to transform Florida golf club into a new Camp David: ‘It’s a great idea’

President Donald Trump is moving to transform his private Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach into a secure, Camp David-style retreat designed to host future commanders-in-chief, international summits and foreign dignitaries.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump explained that the concept originated directly with federal security personnel rather than personal ambition, noting he agreed to the plan after being approached by law enforcement officials.

‘This wouldn’t be for me. This would be for all future presidents,’ Trump said. ‘This was suggested to me by the military and Secret Service… and if they want to do that, I’d be certainly willing.’

Having operated successfully for over two years, the Florida property offers distinct tactical advantages compared to standard golf developments.

Trump stressed that the facility lacks surrounding residential structures or high-rise vantage points, allowing security teams to achieve ‘maximum safety’ without needing to inspect adjacent private homes.

‘You don’t have houses with people hiding behind windows,’ Trump pointed out, emphasizing that ‘there are no high buildings looming over it.’

Yet in 2024, Secret Service agents thwarted an assassination attempt on Trump after a suspect armed with a scoped rifle lay in wait for hours at his West Palm Beach golf course.

In addition to physical security, Trump claims the location offers unmatched logistical convenience for official travel.

‘It’s only about two minutes away from the airport, so they literally would be at that site, and they could spend the weekend there, like a retreat,’ Trump stated, adding that security officials view the site ‘as about as safe as they could possibly get.’

Harvey Oyer, a lawyer representing the Trump Golf Club, says there is no name picked out for it, although a Fox News reporter joked with Trump, asking if he would name it ‘Camp Trump.’

Trump did not respond directly to the name change.

‘It’s a great idea, and it’ll be used a lot,’ Trump said.

The White House said that the retreat would be built for future presidents to ‘hold important meetings and utilize the amenities of a world-class property.’

Future presidents using the resort as a retreat would also get free memberships to the Trump club.

Trump does not use Camp David as often as other presidents.

Back in 2000 President Bill Clinton held the Middle East peace summit at Camp David with Former Prime Minister of Israel Ehud Barak and Yasser Arafat, the Former President of the Palestinian National Authority.

Most recently, Trump used Camp David to host a Cabinet meeting in July.

Trump would be out of office by the time the project would be completed.
