Two suspects apprehended after Assam Rifles gunfight with insurgents in Arunachal

Guwahati: Two persons were apprehended by Assam Rifles personnel following an exchange of fire with an unidentified insurgent group in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district. In the incident a woman sustained a bullet injury.

A senior official in Arunachal Pradesh said the apprehended people were handed over to Namsai Police for further investigation.

The official said that the exchange of fire took place at around 9.15 pm on Friday in the area between Tengapani Reserve Forest and Lal Pahar Road in Namsai district.

“According to information received at approximately 21:15 hours, an exchange of fire took place between Assam Rifles and an unknown insurgent group in the area between Tengapani Reserve Forest and Lal Pahar Road, Namsai District, Arunachal Pradesh”.

The operation continued after the gunfight, leading to the apprehension of two persons. “In continuation of the exchange of fire, two suspects were apprehended and handed over to Namsai Police for further investigation,” official said.


The official added, “During the incident, a woman, identified as Koilani Namchoom, a resident of Momong village under Namsai police station, suffered a bullet injury to her left knee. She was initially provided medical assistance before being referred to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital in neighbouring Assam for treatment”.
