Ukraine-Russia war latest: Zelensky calls Putin a ‘global threat’ after Moscow’s deadliest aerial attack this year

Volodymyr Zelensky has called Vladimir Putin a “truly global threat” after the deadliest Russian air bombardment this year killed at least 18 people across Ukraine.

Russian forces fired at least 700 drones and missiles across Ukraine on Thursday as Ukrainian officials acknowledged that vital stocks of advanced interceptors are running low.

Eyewitnesses said they saw two missile attacks near their home and saw flashes lighting up the night sky, forcing them to flee.

European Council president António Costa described Thursday’s strikes as “yet another horrendous attack” while people slept in their homes.

It came as Zelensky was visiting the Netherlands to receive the International Four Freedoms Award. There, he said: “Today, this is definitely not unprecedented. Putin knows exactly what he’s doing. Exactly. And who he resembles.

“And he’s rightly compared to Nazis, he has the same expansionist ambitions, he wants to decide the fate of nations.”

He went on: “Russia has carried its war ideas as far as Syria and Africa. This is a truly global threat.”
