Ukraine-Russia war latest: Zelensky meets Starmer as UK to enter talks to join £78bn EU loan scheme for Kyiv

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky met UK prime minister Keir Starmer as London is set to enter talks to join the European Union’s £78bn loan scheme for Ukraine.
Starmer met Zelensky on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Armenia’s capital Yerevan.
The UK is set to join the major loan scheme approved by the EU last month which will cover two-thirds of Ukraine’s needs for the next two years, with the bulk earmarked for military spending.
Britain will also announce another tranche of “stinging sanctions” on Russian companies this week to disrupt military supply chains, the office said.
Russian strikes have killed 10 and injured at least 76 people across Ukraine in the past day, Ukrainian officials have said.
“When the UK and the European Union work together, we all reap the benefits –and in these volatile times we need to go further and faster on defence to keep people safe,” Starmer said.
It comes as Zelensky said Ukraine struck Russia’s Primorsk oil port and vessels in a major drone and missile attack, damaging energy infrastructure and causing a fire.
