Uproar as ABC airs ‘pornographic violent fantasy’ about Gina Rinehart on competition show: ‘Turn into sausage roll’

The ABC has come under fire for airing a ‘vile attack’ on Gina Rinehart which was so disturbing even one of the broadcaster’s own presenters branded it ‘nasty’.

Film-maker Kate McGuinness sparked the outrage with her latest clip which aired on Sunday night’s episode of ABC’s Race Around The World.

The competition series follows six aspiring Australian filmmakers who travel the world to complete ten short films in ten countries within 100 days. 

Award-winning Sydney College of the Arts graduate McGuinness sent in her latest entry, entitled A Very Relaxing Video, from Scotland. 

In the film, McGuinness was shown by a local resident how to do relaxation exercises such as focusing on the bubbles on the river and hitting things with a stick.

But it took a dramatic turn towards the end of the four-minute film when McGuinness launched into a foul attack on Mrs Rinehart.

The outburst is too disturbing to publish but went into detail about graphically assaulting the mining magnate with a stick to ‘make one big sausage roll’.

Guest panellist Leigh Sales was the only one of the show’s three judges to push back against the remarks, saying it was ‘nasty’, but also said she ‘really liked’ the film.

‘I have a bone to pick, which is that you shifted the tone from a film that was universal to and including all of us… and then backed it in with an easy and nasty gag about Gina Rinehart,’ the veteran ABC presenter told the film-maker.

‘What you were saying to the viewer was, “We’re all in this together unless you don’t share my politics”.’

McGuinness replied: ‘Unless you’re Gina Rinehart.’

The Daily Mail has contacted Mrs Rinehart and the ABC for comment. The segment remains on ABC’s online platforms. 

Political commentator Andrew Bolt has now slammed the outburst as ‘barbaric hate fantasy’ and said the clip was ‘ugly and unforgivable’.

He called for the segment to be taken down and questioned how it was ever put to air by the show’s producers for primetime viewing.

In his News Corp column this week, Bolt pointed out that this is not the first time Mrs Rinehart has been mocked on the ABC. 

In 2013 on the broadcaster’s now-defunct satirical comedy Wednesday Night Fever, the programme band’s lead singer dressed as Mrs Rinehart singing provocative lyrics.

Earlier this year on the Tony Armstrong-hosted Australia Day special Always Was Tonight, there was another distasteful remark about the billionaire.

Bolt called on ABC chairman Kim Williams to apologise for allowing the latest attack to air.

He also questioned whether the content met the broadcaster’s own standards around harm, offence and respect for audiences.

‘Sure, Mrs Rinehart is our richest person, and the powerful must expect to be targets of satire to keep them humble,’ Bolt wrote.

‘What the ABC did last week is something much uglier and unforgivable.’

‘It was a howl of our growing savagery, and a very gendered and political attack that the ABC would never forgive if done to a woman of the Left – say, a Julia Gillard or Tanya Plibersek.’

Many Aussies agreed, with one woman posting: ‘As an ABC viewer I find this appalling.

One added: ‘And one of the many reasons ABC should be defunded. We should be thanking Gina for all she does for our county, a great Australian.’

‘Absolutely disgusting,’ said another. ‘Where is the media watchdog?’
