MSNBC’s Morning Joe host Jonathan Lemire slammed Donald Trump for leaving out the military in his Memorial Day statement and refused to read it on air.
The president continued his tradition of using a national holiday to strike back at his enemies, this time sharing a high-octane message on social media on Monday.
In his Truth Social post, Trump berated criminal illegal immigrants who had entered the country as well as the politicians, including former President Joe Biden, who allowed them to do so.
Lemire, who anchored Monday morning’s show without co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, declined to read the state in full as he previewed Trump’s Memorial Day remarks at Arlington National Cemetery.
‘President Trump is expected to go there later today to lay a wreath, but he has started his Memorial Day, as he often does on these holidays, with a lengthy all caps social media post,’ Lemire said.
‘We should note this post includes nothing of the sacrifice made by the U.S. armed forces at home and abroad, but rather: “Happy Memorial Day to all, including the scum that spent the last four years trying to destroy our country.”‘
Lemire snarked that the statement showed Trump’s mindset during the holiday honoring those who died while serving in the military and directed viewers to read the post themselves online.
‘And it goes on from there about immigration and in particular, a scathing broadside against the judges, the federal judges, including the Supreme Court that has tried to rein in his immigration policies,’ he said.

‘We’re certainly not going to read all of that missive. You can go to Truth Social if you care to. But that’s where the president’s mindset is this morning.’
In his lengthy post kicking off his holiday greeting, the president wrote:
‘Happy Memorial Day to all, including the scum that spent the last four years trying to destroy our country through warped radical left minds, who allowed 21,000,000 million people to illegally enter our country, many of them being criminals and the mentally insane, through an open border that only an incompetent president would approve, and through judges who are on a mission to keep murderers, drug dealers, rapists, gang members, and released prisoners from all over the world, in our country so they can rob, murder, and rape again, all protected by these USA hating judges who suffer from an ideology that is sick, and very dangerous for our country.’
Trump went on to use his remarks at Arlington National Cemetery to reveal why God had him lose the 2020 election and eviscerated Biden.
Trump claimed that he missed the last four years in office so he’s able to be president during the U.S.’s 250th birthday festivities.
The ‘big, big celebration’ starts next month on the president’s birthday, June 14, with a parade honoring the Army’s 250th anniversary, but the pinnacle of the celebration will take place on July 4th of next year.
‘In some ways I’m glad I missed that second term where it was,’ Trump said to laughs. ‘Because I wouldn’t be your president for that most important of all.’
Trump had segued to talk about the upcoming events taking place in the country from what was otherwise a subdued and somber speech about servicemembers giving the greatest sacrifice.

But the president couldn’t help himself – briefly slapping around former President Joe Biden during his remarks too.
‘Those young men could never have known what their sacrifice would mean to us, but we certainly know what we owe to them,’ Trump said.
‘Their valor gave us the freest, greatest and most noble republic ever to exist on the face of earth – a republic that I am fixing after a long and hard four years.
‘That was a hard four years we went through,’ the president ad-libbed. ‘Who would let that happen?
‘People pouring through our borders unchecked, people doing things that are undescribable and not for today to discuss,’ he continued.
He added that the republic is ‘now doing so very well.’
‘We’re doing so very well right now, considering the circumstances, and we’ll do record-setting better with time, we will do better than we’ve ever done as a nation, better than ever before, I promise you that,’ Trump said.
