The specialist of Moderna announces the possibility of simultaneous infection with “Delta” and “Omicron”

There is a possibility of contracting two strains of COVID-19 simultaneously – ‘Delta’ and ‘Omicron’, said Paul Burton, chief medical officer of US drug company Moderna.

Burton explained that in such an organism, two strains can “exchange genes,” and that patients with reduced immunity are at risk.

Omicron will infect patients already infected with Delta. The medical expert explained that this will lead in the future to mutating viruses. He added that this development of events raises certain concerns.

Burton also believes that the Omicron strain is no less dangerous type of coronavirus, as previously reported by some experts. The expert says that the preliminary data of scientists indicate a high level of hospitalization and approximately the same number of patients in intensive care units, as in the “Delta”.
