The United Nations is evacuating 177 asylum seekers from Libya to Niger

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has evacuated 177 asylum-seekers from Libya to Niger, the second evacuation flight to Niger this year.

According to the official UNHCR Facebook page, this is the 30th evacuation trip to Niger since the establishment of the Emergency Transit Mechanism in 2017, with 3,710 refugees and asylum-seekers arriving from Libya, of whom 3,255 left from Niger to third countries on resettlement paths.

UNHCR added that many of them are victims of smuggling or trafficking and have been subjected to violence in Libya.
Among those evacuated to Niger are families and young children.
