The United States recorded the highest inflation rate in the past 40 years

Annual inflation in the United States has peaked since 1982 and accelerated to 7% in December 2021.

US consumer prices accelerated growth to 7% by the end of 2021 from 6.8% in November. The US Department of Labor said it only grew 0.5% in December.

Inflation approached its highest level ever in June 1982. It reached 7.2%.

For 2021, core US inflation, excluding food and energy prices, is 5.5%. Food prices increased by 6.3%.

On January 11, the head of the country’s Federal Reserve System (FRS), Jerome Powell, said the United States could raise the benchmark interest rate to combat inflation. According to him, this will be done only if inflation in the country remains at a high level.
