Sultan Al Qasimi inaugurates the 15th session of "Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival"

Sharjah, 1st May / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated this morning, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Book Authority. The 15th session of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival, organized by the Sharjah Book Authority, under the slogan “Be the Hero of Your Story,” continues until May 12, at the Expo Center Sharjah.

His Highness was received upon his arrival by Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler, Sheikh Faisal bin Saud Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah International Airport Authority, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamid, Head of the National Media Office, and a number of heads and directors of government institutions, bodies and departments. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah kindly cut the opening ribbon, after which he watched an artistic performance presented by a group of Sharjah girls, in which they sang of love for His Highness.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah toured the festival, which includes 186 Arab and foreign publishing houses from 20 countries, and organizes more than 1,500 cultural, artistic and entertainment events, presented by 265 guests from 25 countries, including major writers, writers, artists, publishers and painters.

His Highness visited the pavilions of the Sharjah Private Education Authority, the Emirates Publishers Association, the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and the Emirates Council on Books for Young People, to view their most prominent cultural and cognitive activities that develop reading and curiosity among children.

His Highness listened to an explanation during his visit to the pavilions of the House of Wisdom, the Rubu’ Qarn Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators, the Department of Social Services, and Sharjah Libraries about plans, programs and cultural publications.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah also visited the platforms of the Department of Culture, Manasa Distribution Company, Mohammed bin Rashid Library, Kalimat Group, and the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority, and His Highness learned about their cultural efforts in supporting writers and writers and publishing publications.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah honored the winners of the “Sharjah Children’s Book Illustration Exhibition 2024”, where first place was won by Kyung Mi Ahn from South Korea, second place was won by Juan Carlos Palomino from Mexico, and the third place award was won by Daniela Stamtiadi from Greece.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah also honored the winners of the “Sharjah Children’s Book Award”, which is valued at 20,000 dirhams for each category. The writer Maitha Al Khayyat from the UAE won for the book “I Will Catch My Breakfast”, published by Kalimat Group, and drawn by Gustavo Amar in the “Book” category. The Child (in Arabic) for ages 4 to 12 years,” and writer Tariq Al-Bakri from Lebanon won for the book “The Buried Secret,” published by Kalimat Group, and drawn by Fadi Fadel, in the “Young People’s Book (in Arabic) category for ages 13 to 17 years.” Julia Johnson from the United Kingdom won for “Aisha’s Pearl” published by ELF Publishing in the category “Children’s Book (in English) for ages 7 to 13.”

The honor also included the winner of the “Sharjah Audio Book Award”, which was won by writer Lina Mustafa Al-Zibaq from Syria for the book “My Grandmother’s Hug” published by Dar Al-Zibaq.

The winner was honored with the “Sharjah Award for People with Visual Needs,” which aims to celebrate works that contribute to empowering people with visual needs with cultural capabilities and integrating them into society. It was won by Brigadier General Dr. Muhammad Khamis Al Othmani from the Emirates for his book “Seven Snapels,” published by the Academy of Police Sciences. In Sharjah.

This year, the festival aims to enhance the role of reading as a main basis for building a better future for children, and to form a generation that understands the importance of reading as an effective means of change and development in society, as it works to enhance creative thinking and innovation by hosting events in which an elite group of writers, painters, and publishers participate, who present… They publish their works and share with the public their stories and experiences in the world of reading and creativity.

The festival activities host 265 guests, who present a series of workshops directed at children, distributed on a number of platforms and addressing several topics such as sustainability, fashion, crafts, music, and others, in addition to 12 performances divided between theatrical performances and traveling performances, presented by 19 participants from 12… nation.

The cultural program includes a variety of dialogue sessions that highlight a number of the most important issues that focus on developing children’s communication skills, and hosts 70 guests from 25 Arab and foreign countries, to present more than 70 cultural events.

During the festival days, the “Poetry Knight” competition will be held, which aims to encourage children and adolescents to read, memorize and recite Arabic poetry, in three categories, the first for students in grades one through four, the second for students in grades five through eight, and the third for students in grades nine through twelfth. .
