Mt Beauty Airport: Two people dead after aircraft crashes at scenic country airport

An aircraft has crashed at a scenic country airport killing two people on board.

Ambulances and other emergency services were called to the scent north-east Victoria’s Mount Beauty airport at around 1.40pm on Saturday.

There are conflicting reports on whether the aircraft is a plane or a powered glider.

Two planes have crashed in the alpine northern Victorian Mt Beauty region leaving two injured

It is believed the pair were flying over Embankment Drive when the aircraft crashed about 1.45pm.

The yet-to-be formally identified pilot and passenger both died at the scene.

The pair were the only occupants of the aircraft.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

The Country Fire Authority reported it received multiple calls about the incident and its crews were able to provide first aid until paramedics arrived on scene.

Previously Mount Beauty Airport was the scene of the tragic death of Matthew Farrell, a pilot that crashed a light aircraft in dense bushland shortly after taking off in September 2022.

An inquest heard that at the time of the crash other pilots on the ground considered the weather poor.

Farrell  attained a pilot’s licence through an accelerated conversion course from his paragliding accreditation.

The court heard there were concerns regarding the sufficiency of this training.
