Injuries in Banque de France press fire rise to 34

The number of injured in the fire of the Bank of France press near the city of Clermont-Ferrand in the municipality of Chamaleris has risen to at least 34 people.

10 of them were taken to hospital. Among the injured were two firefighters.

The fire started around 10:00 a.m. local time in the Banque de France building where banknotes are printed.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and the public prosecutor’s office in Clermont-Ferrand is still investigating.

The factory’s 387 employees were evacuated to safety, while residents of Chamalet were advised to stay home and keep their windows closed due to the thick smoke rising from the burning factory.

The Chamalier Press is one of 11 high-security printing presses in Europe that produces one fifth of the banknotes of the European Union.
