6.2-magnitude earthquake hits Georgia

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in southern Georgia. The tremors were so strong that they were felt in Batumi and Tbilisi.

According to the Elia University seismology website. The earthquake occurred at 22.25 Tbilisi time. The epicenter was located near the village of Samba, which borders the Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhi Javakheti regions.

Tia Gudoladze, director of the Institute of Earth Sciences and the National Seismological Center, told that, according to the first data, the magnitude was 5.8, after clarification, according to the updated data, it increased to 6.2.

“However, in this seismically active region of Samtskhi Javakheti, tremors still occur, and machines are recorded from 2 to 4,” she said.

According to the mayor of Dmanisi, Cuba Moradashvili, where a strong earthquake occurred, no damage occurred.
“Nothing happened to us. We are all peaceful and calm. Our municipality was the epicenter of the earthquake, but there were no casualties or damage,” said Moradashvili.

According to the Mtavari Arxi TV channel, tremors were felt in other regions of Georgia in addition to the two cities mentioned above.

No information has yet been received about the deaths and destruction.
