EU: Russia’s recognition of the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk is a violation of international law

The Presidents of the European Commission and the European Council, Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel, said that the unilateral recognition of the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republic by the Russian authorities violates international law.

“The recognition of two separatist regions of Ukraine is a flagrant violation of international law, the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the Minsk agreements,” the two commission chairs tweeted.
“The response of the European Union and its partners will be united and resolute.”
