Under the slogan " Leadership".. "Tadra" Celebrates International Girls in ICT Day

Abu Dhabi, April 29 / WAM / The Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, “Tedra”, celebrated the International Day of Girls in ICT.

This day, which falls on April 25 of each year, is one of the initiatives of the International Telecommunication Union, and this year it is held under the slogan “Leadership” with the aim of encouraging and empowering women to assume more powerful and established roles and role models in the information and communications technology sector.

“Tadra” organized its celebration of this occasion at its headquarters in Dubai, in the presence and participation of the Youth Council of the Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, and in cooperation with the Youth Advisory Council for Sustainable Development Goals.

The ceremony included various activities that enhance girls’ awareness of future prospects in the information and communications technology sector and encourage them to study related specializations.

The ceremony was opened by His Excellency Engineer Mohammed Al Ramsi, Deputy Director General of the Communications Sector at the Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, with a speech in which he touched on the role of women in the field of information and communications technology and the trust they enjoy from the country’s leadership in the context of the empowerment policy.

Al Ramsi said that the communications and information technology sector in the UAE is a field full of activity and vitality, in which women have proven their exceptional abilities to contribute to shaping the present and future of the country, as the percentage of girls among graduates of specializations related to communications and information technology is about 49%. He added: “In terms of leadership, the UAE has set a distinguished model in this regard, as our Council of Ministers includes among its members 9 women, most of whom either come from a technological academic background or work in fields related to digital technology. This confirms that all fields in the UAE “Linked in one way or another to this sector, which constitutes an important engine for development and shaping the future in all other fields.”

The ceremony’s agenda included a welcome speech by Her Excellency Shatha Al Hashemi, Advisor to the General Secretariat for Sustainable Development Goals in the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals, in which she praised those organizing the ceremony and noted the role of Emirati women in achieving development goals.

She said: “Since the era of the late founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, the UAE has carried the torch of women’s empowerment and believed in its role as a major partner in the comprehensive development process. The Emirati woman is the sister, daughter, wife, mother, and partner in the development process. The ceremony included a dialogue session entitled “Behind Every Robot, an Ambitious Woman”, in which engineer Yasmine Al-Anazi – co-founder and ambassador for women in the artificial intelligence community, Women in AI Community – and business development director at Marsys Robotics participated, and a second dialogue session entitled “Experiences of Inspiring Youth”. In the ICT sector,” presented by speakers from “TADRA” with the participation of the Etisalat Youth Council from e& and Dewa.

The ceremony highlighted women’s achievements in the field of communications and information technology, as the UAE topped the gender equality index for 2024 according to the United Nations Development Programme, ranking first regionally and seventh globally.

According to the Office of Artificial Intelligence, women make up 46% of graduates of the Artificial Intelligence program. The rate of women within the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre’s work team is about 42%, and this percentage increases significantly in practical roles, as women constituted 80% of the scientific team for the Hope Probe.

Female students’ interest in scientific fields has also increased over the past years, as their percentage reached 56% of graduates in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation majors in public universities.

The percentage of women out of the total qualifications at the National Science and Technology Exhibition reached about 67%, which shows the extent of progress that women are making in these fields.
