Macron predicts an “unprecedented” food crisis

French President Emmanuel Macron, after a meeting of G7 leaders, said the world was on the verge of an “unprecedented” food crisis due to the situation in Ukraine.

“We are now entering an unprecedented food crisis,” the French president said, noting that “Russia and Ukraine are the two largest agricultural producers.”

According to him, the countries of the Maghreb, Africa and the Middle East are particularly vulnerable to a food crisis.

He predicted earlier that this crisis would occur in the next year and a half. He promised to guarantee France’s “food independence”, in the event of his re-election, for which he proposed introducing food inspection.

Macron also said that the influx of refugees from Ukraine is one of the biggest challenges Europe has faced in recent decades.

The day before, the Financial Times, citing informed sources, wrote that German authorities and energy companies were preparing for possible winter energy supply restrictions in the event of a Russian gas refusal. On March 18, representatives of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry held a meeting with the Federal Network Agency, during which they said that almost all sectors, including agriculture, automobiles, cosmetics and hygiene, will have to reduce production.
