Pakistan dissolves parliament and cabinet

Pakistan’s Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Farrukh Habib, said on Twitter that the country’s cabinet has been dissolved, but Prime Minister Imran Khan will continue to perform his duties.

“The prime minister will continue to perform his duties in accordance with Article 224 of the constitution, and the cabinet has been dissolved,” he wrote.

Geo-TV of Pakistan reported that President Arif Alvi also dissolved the National Assembly (lower house of parliament) on the proposal of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Farroukh Khabib reported that new parliamentary elections could be held within 90 days.

Earlier, it was reported that Imran Khan’s security had been tightened after the country’s security authorities reported that a plot was being prepared to assassinate him. Khan also refused to condemn the Russian military operation in Ukraine, noting that his country has friendly relations with the United States, Russia, China and the European Union and will not join any camp.
