Foreign mercenaries head to Ukraine via Poland

Over the past five weeks, foreign mercenaries bound for Ukraine have arrived at the Belarusian House in Warsaw, the center of the opposition against Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

According to the head of the Belarusian House, Alice Zarembyuk, “more than a hundred young people” from Belarus have already passed through the organization. He added that the organization “sometimes helps” citizens of other countries.

Zarambuk noted that people who do not have military experience can be trained in Ukraine. Those with such experience join the Kastus Kalinovsky battalion, named after the Belarusian commander who fought with the Polish army against the Russian Empire in 1863. The battalion is part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Canadian edition of the National Post earlier published an article stating that Ukraine had stopped recruiting mercenaries to the “International Legion”. According to the newspaper’s source, this decision was caused by “multiple reasons”, among them the lack of weapons.
