Israel strengthens its defenses along the West Bank borders

Israel is bolstering defensive barriers along the border with Palestinian territories in the West Bank after a Palestinian gunman in Tel Aviv was found to have entered the country through a gap, The Times of Israel reported on Saturday.

Three additional companies of soldiers are expected to be deployed along the Green Line separating Israel and the West Bank.

The newspaper noted that there are “many gaps” in the wall’s buildings, one of which was used by Raad Hazem, who was shot on April 7 in central Tel Aviv.

In addition, the IDF and Shin Bet security service carried out an operation on Saturday morning in Jenin, Hazem’s home. Special Forces soldiers surrounded his house and the neighboring houses where his relatives live on suspicion of aiding him. Some of Hazem’s family members have already been questioned.

As a result of the shooting in Tel Aviv, two people were killed on the spot, while another was in intensive care, and more than a dozen people were injured.

Hazem was eliminated on Friday morning – he managed to escape from the scene of the attack, but was later found near a mosque in Jaffa. Hazem belongs to the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the paramilitary wing of the Fatah movement, according to the Israeli “Vesti” portal.
