Macron and Le Pen advance to the second round of the presidential race

The current French President Emmanuel Macron and the leader of the far-right National Rally party Marine Le Pen have entered the second round of the presidential elections, according to the preliminary results of the first round published on the website of the Ministry of the Interior.

According to the results of processing 89% of the votes, Macron received 27.4% of the vote in the first round, Marine Le Pen Ali – 24.8%, the leader of the extreme left-wing party “Unbowed France” Jean-Luc Mélenchon – 20.8%. Other candidates failed to pass the 10% mark.

Marine Le Pen said earlier that France was ready for its first female president. She noted that 77 years ago, specifically in April 1945, women in France for the first time obtained the right to vote in municipal elections.

Le Pen also stated that if she wins the elections, she will restore order in the country.

In turn, Macron said that he has not yet secured re-election.

Macron asked and spoke to his supporters. “Do we want France to be more independent, stronger in the field of economy, environment, agriculture, culture… Do we want France to continue to rely on science, common sense, and competent people, as it has been in the past five years?”

Meanwhile, the second round of elections will be held on April 24, with none of the candidates winning an absolute majority of votes. Debates are planned between the race leaders.
