France closes swimming pools due to rising electricity prices

Facilities in the northern region of France, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, faced rising operating costs for municipal swimming pools and decided to close some of them.

The swimming pool will be closed in the municipality of Leffrencoek. According to Mayor Olivier Riquebush, you now have to pay an additional 50,000 euros for the upkeep of the pool.

In the municipality of Montreuil, the authorities decided not to take such extreme measures. So now they decided to adapt the payment.

It is also known that the municipalities of Ecuador, Etaples and Berk are facing difficulties. In 2021, these three associations paid €90,000 for their three associations. This year, the municipality expects to pay four times the cost of the infrastructure – about 400,000 euros.

The reason for the increase in the cost of operating facilities is due to the increase in electricity prices.
