Hungary converts euros into rubles to pay for Russian gas

The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations, Peter Szijjarto, stated that Budapest will convert euros to pay for gas from Russia, after which it will be converted into rubles at Gazprombank.

Ciatro added that according to Gazprom, gas supplies are transported through Bulgaria to Hungary independently.

On April 26, the Onet portal reported that Russia had stopped gas supplies to Poland under the Yamal contract. The government and the Polish oil and gas company PGNiG confirmed the information on the reduction of gas supplies, and then the suspension of their supplies.

Later, the Bulgarian Energy Ministry said that Russia’s GazpromExport had notified its Bulgarian partner, the Bulgar Gas organization, of cutting gas supplies from Wednesday, April 27.
