Japan triples financial aid to Ukraine

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation, during which the head of government promised the Ukrainian leader to provide assistance to Kyiv as soon as possible.

According to the Japanese Foreign Ministry, financial assistance to Ukraine will be tripled.

“Prime Minister Kiseda, at the request of the Government of Ukraine, said that in order to support the economy, it was decided to increase financial assistance to Ukraine from $100 million to $300 million,” the statement said.

The statement also said that Tokyo will donate chemical protective clothing and masks, drones and other equipment to the Self-Defense Forces, and “food and medicine requested by the Ukrainian side will be provided as soon as possible.”

Earlier, the G7 countries (Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, Japan and the United States) said that the total amount of additional assistance to Ukraine would exceed $24 billion.
