Croatia switches to the euro

Croatia switches to the euro –

The Croatian parliament has approved a bill to join the single European currency from 2023.

117 deputies approved the bill, under which the Croatian kuna will be replaced by the euro. 13 deputies voted against it.

From September 5, 2022, prices will be shown in Croatia in both currencies. This practice is scheduled to be implemented throughout 2023.

According to the Croatian government, such a relocation would be a positive step for the whole country. This can eliminate currency risk, lower interest rates, improve Croatia’s credit rating and attract more investment.

Earlier, the head of the Croatian opposition to the homeland, Ivan Benava, said that the country’s transition to the use of the euro as an official currency in the context of the global crisis, including the economic crisis, would be counterproductive.

Benawa appealed to the government and the parliamentary majority coalition “to think about it well.”

He argues that the government’s intention to introduce the euro in the country differs from the beliefs advocated by the first president of independent Croatia, Franjo Tudjman.
