The European Parliament threatens to impeach Turkey over the ban on Finland and Sweden joining NATO

The head of the leading faction of the European Parliament – the European People’s Party – Manfred Weber warned that Turkey could expect isolation in NATO if it prevents Finland and Sweden from entering the alliance.

“Anyone who questions the cohesion of NATO will be isolated within society,” he said.

Weber added that if both countries wanted to join the alliance, there was no point in slowing down this process or impeding this process.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he did not consider Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO as positive news, because “Scandinavia is a guesthouse for terrorist organizations.” The Turkish presidential spokesman, Ibrahim Kalin, explained that the republic did not close the NATO door to Sweden and Finland, but wanted to negotiate with neighboring countries and reduce the risks of terrorism.

Later, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, said that the Turkish people are against the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO and demanded that the leadership of their country block this process.

According to the minister, the support of Turkey’s allies and friends for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (which Ankara considers an extremist group) is outrageous and unacceptable.
