Australia equips its submarines with US Tomahawk missiles

Australia is considering equipping its Collins-class submarines with US Tomahawk cruise missiles as part of the LOTE Life Extension Program.

According to Naval News. Under the LOTE program, six Collins-class submarines will undergo repairs and upgrades to continue service through 2040.

The Tomahawk is a family of American long-range, high-precision, multi-purpose subsonic cruise missiles for naval, land and air bases. This missile was put into service in 1983.

Last year, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that his country would buy Tomahawk missiles.

The arms purchase was planned as part of the AUKUS defense alliance, the creation of which was announced by Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom on September 15, 2021.

There were no reports in open sources about the purchase of missiles.
