Booze party planner for Johnson is a candidate for ambassador to Saudi Arabia

The former private secretary of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Martin Reynolds, who organized the drinking party in Downing Street, may become an ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

The Daily Mail reported. That the former assistant to the prime minister, nicknamed the “Marty Party”, is likely to take over the post of the Kingdom’s ambassador to Riyadh.

It was Reynolds who organized the party, which took place in May 2020. It turned out that invitations were sent to her an hour after the ban on citizens to gather more than two by two. The letter suggested taking wine with you.

The irony is, according to the Daily Mail, that Reynolds, if hired, would be left without parties: In Saudi Arabia, alcohol is banned, and there is a prison sentence for possessing or selling alcohol. However, the British Foreign Office still claims that the process of selecting a candidate for a position in an Arab country is still ongoing.

Parties of Britain’s political elite have convened several times during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the scandal associated with it has been called “patigate”. According to police, Johnson attended at least six such events.

Reynolds served as Britain’s ambassador to Libya in 2019 and later became Johnson’s first private secretary.

He left this position in February 2022 due to the scandal with the mentioned parties.
