Quarantine against monkeypox for 21 days in Belgium

Belgium is the first country in the world to implement a mandatory 21-day quarantine against monkeypox, Belgian newspaper La Libre reported on Sunday.

The decision was made following a meeting of the Belgian risk assessment team after three cases of the disease were discovered in the country. The newspaper pointed out that among the symptoms of infection is the appearance of a rash on the face and body, in addition to symptoms similar to those of the flu such as cough, fever, headache and inflammation of the lymph nodes.

The World Health Organization has also warned that experts have pointed to transmission among men of non-traditional sexual orientation.

Earlier, the World Health Organization reported 92 confirmed cases of monkeypox infection in 12 countries. In addition to Belgium, it has been identified in Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Italy, Canada, Portugal, the USA, France, Switzerland and Sweden.
