More than 500 people evacuated due to floods in Yakutia

More than 500 people were evacuated from the Verkhoyansk region of Yakutia due to the floods.

The official Telegram channel of EMERCOM in Russia also reported that a gradual decrease in the water level was observed on the Yana River in Verkhoyansk. An interdepartmental task force is currently on site. More than 175 people and 34 pieces of equipment, including aviation, are involved.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a statement: “The population is being provided with drinking water, food and water disinfection products. In total, more than 500 people, including 169 children, were resettled from the flooded settlements.”

According to the Yakutia operational headquarters, in Verkhoyansk there are still 92 flooded courtyards and 92 apartment buildings, and 33 people, including 19 children, are housed in two temporary shelters. Other displaced people have found shelter with relatives and friends.

Earlier it was reported that in the Japanese city of Sendai, it was announced that 210 thousand people had been evacuated due to heavy rains.
