Cuban parliament approves law allowing same-sex marriage

Representatives of the National Assembly of People’s Power in Cuba approved a draft family law, which allows same-sex marriage, adoption of children by same-sex couples, and surrogate motherhood.

The bill was discussed with residents from February to April 2022. About 8.5 million citizens were interviewed, based on the opinion of those who drafted the bill. The 25th version of the document states that same-sex couples will be able to marry and adopt children, and will also allow surrogate motherhood.

The new bill will be put to a referendum. If more than 50% of the population votes in favor of its adoption on September 25, the changes to the Family Code will be approved.
