FBI investigates Huawei theft of US nuclear arsenal data

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has found that the equipment of the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei is able to intercept and transmit confidential data of the US military, including those related to the country’s nuclear arsenal, to Beijing.

Since 2017, federal officials have been investigating China’s purchase of land near critical infrastructure, according to CNN. A well-known regional consulate, which the US government considers “a hotbed of Chinese spies,” has been closed, and an official has blocked attempts to plant listening devices near important military and government facilities.

Among the most disturbing facts discovered by the FBI, the channel called the Chinese equipment Huawei, which was installed on cell towers near US military bases in the countryside of the Midwest.

“According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, the FBI has determined that the equipment is capable of intercepting and disrupting the very limited communications of the Department of Defense, including those used by the US Strategic Command, which oversees the country’s nuclear weapons.”

According to him, concerns about Huawei equipment near US military facilities are well known, but the existence and results of this investigation have not been reported.

More than 10 sources, including current and former national security officials, told CNN that the origins of this investigation go back to the administration of the 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama.

It is still unknown if any data was actually intercepted and sent to Beijing from these towers.

Sources familiar with the problem confirmed that it is technically very difficult to prove that a particular data packet was stolen and sent abroad.

In turn, the Chinese government denies any attempts to spy on the United States, but multiple sources familiar with the investigation told CNN that there is no doubt that Huawei’s equipment is capable of intercepting not only commercial cellular traffic, but also the very limited radio waves used. by the military, disrupting critical US Strategic Command communications, giving the Chinese government access to the US nuclear arsenal.

Huawei has been under US sanctions since 2019 due to a threat to national security.
